This Privacy Policy explains how Cherished ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use https://cherished.cc.
Information we collect
Information you provide:
- Account information: name, email address, payment information (processed by Stripe — we do not store full card numbers)
- Memorial content: text, photos, and other media you upload to create a memorial page
- Communications: emails or messages you send us
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: pages visited, time on site, referring URL, device and browser type
- IP address and approximate location (city-level)
- Cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below)
How we use information
We use the information to:
- Provide and operate the service (host your memorial page, process payments)
- Communicate with you about your account, purchases, and the service
- Improve the service and understand how it's used
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use memorial content to train AI models without your explicit consent.
How we share information
We share information only with:
- Service providers who help us operate the site (e.g., Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for hosting, analytics tools). These providers are contractually limited to processing data on our behalf.
- Legal authorities when required by law, court order, or to protect rights and safety.
- A successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale — with notice to you.
Your published memorial pages are visible at their unique URL to anyone with the link. They are intentionally public-facing by design.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Essential site functionality
- Analytics (understanding usage patterns) via Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity
- Advertising attribution via Google Ads
You can disable cookies in your browser. Doing so may affect site functionality.
Data retention
We retain account and memorial content for the duration of the 100-year hosting commitment. You may request deletion at any time (see "Your rights").
Payment records are retained for as long as required by tax and accounting laws.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g., California under CCPA, EU under GDPR), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Request a copy of your information in a portable format
- Opt out of certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, email support@cherished.cc. We will respond within 30 days.
Note: Requesting deletion of a memorial page will permanently remove it from the service.
Children's privacy
The service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact support@cherished.cc and we will delete it.
International users
Cherished is operated from the United States. If you use the service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated by email or a notice on the site.
